It is nice to see some big fat heads peeking out after seeing all those tiny [but beautiful] Specks. These are one of my faves, nice big clutch too! Tom Stevens

very nice,do they loose that hint of pattern as they grow? or will some keep it?i know it was selectivly bred to be a solid jet black but i like the dark subtle patterned ones myself, congrats,,,,,,,,thomas

Hey Thomas, I have never held any back but know a few people who have my offspring. Theirs have a little white near the belly but I have never seen any retain any pattern on their backs. These get nice n glossy, which is what appeals to me most about them. I may keep a pair for myself this year...hoping for a second clutch too. ttyl Tom Stevens

I have one of Tom's 05 MBKs. No pattern, just glossy black with some white spotting under the bottom jaw which is fading with each shed. He's currently a bit over 3 feet and 220g.

Thanks Tim, right now I have addictedtopeekinginincubator-itus. It is a relief to see these big babies. Had Specks hatch out today too. Waiting on some Corns and then Pits. No matter how hard I try, if I am home I open that incubator door 100 times a day. Post pics when yours hatch, have a good one Tom Stevens

Tom,
I have an '01 MBK who emerged from his egg as I held it in my hand. He'd been ready to leave the egg for a couple of days, but was just shy. He has several white scales on his chin that look like a soul patch. He has no other white scales on his body.

He is now an extrovert. As my classroom snake, he never uses his hides, prefering to coil up on top of them. When the children approach his enclosure, he slithers right up, tongue flicking--plainly curious. When placed in his clear feedbox, he doesn't care how many pairs of eyes watch him as he devours his f/t rats. And the iridescence that dances across his glossy black scales in sunlight makes even proclaimed snake haters go "OOO...". He's also very mellow when handled.

I highly recommend this species as a beautiful and hardy captive pet snake. Your babies are gorgeous, and I hope that they all go to great homes. Thank you for sharing, and waltzing me down memory lane with your photos.
regards,
althea

Funny how when I see these babies I recall how happy I was when I initially purchased my breeder female as a baby. These are the type of snake you have to see in person to appreciate how cool they are. I will try nget some better pics up after they shed.

I think it's nice that some body with a lot of colorful snakes can still appreciate the plain beauty of MBKs. Sort of the opposite end of the spectrum, but I agree with you that they are great.I particularly like their mellow attitude.
