Terrarium snake species

guest1 Jul 05, 2006 02:41 PM

Hello!

I would like to get some help in identifying snake species on photos below. It is a terrarium snake. It suppose to be a North american species.

Thank you in advance!

This is not a North American species.

It appears to be a snake from the genus Malpolon, probably Malpolon moilensis.

Hello!

I checked in literature the scalation of head in Malpolon moilensis and it doesn't look the same. Any other ideas?

Thank you!

At first glance it does look like a Malapon. It also resembles the Beaked snakes. Problem is the proportions of the snake and the pattern does not work for either genus.

If you look closely at the head it appears there was a injury and propable deformation. I have seen such in other colubrids where the snout becomes more sharply sloped than normal.

At this point, considering the eye markings as well, I am inclined to go with one of the Eurasian-N. African species of Coluber.

I don't know what kind, but completely agree with Chris, (from what I've seen he is right 99 times out of 100 lol) it is defenitely not a North American species.
