Proper Temperatures & Lightings Per Day?

Dan6971 Jul 05, 2006 09:26 PM

So, what are the proper temperatures during each part of the day, for a Jungle Carpet Python?

I know that it has to be a bit cooler at night, I just have the heat lamp off at night and the only warmth comes from whatever heat remains in the enclosure and the heat from my home.

But, what type of temperatures do I want during the day and at night?

Also, is it a good idea to have the heat lamp go on and off throughout the day, every few hours? Like, if I have it on for three hours and then off for a half hour or an hour in between?

And, I have a 29 gallon tank, with the thermometer on the back wall, halfway up the glass wall. When the light is on, the temperature is about 85 degrees and it seems to stay at around 80 degrees at night, is that good? If not, how can I get it hotter, but not too hot? To make it cooler, I would just have the heat lamp on for a less amount of time.

Thank you.

As always...proper temps is a RANGE of temps. In the non-breeding..non-cycling time of year, which is what YOU are interested in, Carpet Pythons do best with a horizontal temperature gradient of 90F warm side, 80F cool side (80F ambient).

24 HOURS PER DAY.
