It's so hot here that we just let the thaw out on the porch outside turning them every so often. Or sometimes we let them thaw in our snake room where it's pretty warm...

Good Luck!

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. Looks like i need bigger buckets. Has anyone had any success using a microwave? I tried it once with aweful results!

can make hot spots inside, very bad for boa.

Also, have heard they can stink up the microwave or even explode, bad for microwave and people.

That will make them hotter inside than outside and they could burn your snakes without you're ever knowing about it.

Use the sink!
just plug the drain
fill with real hot water
add rodents
stir a couple times
come back in a while and stir
check rodents, if they dont seem completely thawed repeat with new hot water

the advantage of this is you don't have to lug heavy stuff around, or wash any buckets etc., just take a few out and feed at a time. This will keep a lot of rats ready for quite a while if you have a lot of snakes.

I only start with warm water. I dont continue to change the water. I let it get cool. By changing the water and keeping it warm it can cause excess bacteria growth. Bacteria likes the heat. The cooler the water the less bacteria that will begin growing in the rats. Thats why you thaw out your thanksgiving turkey in the refrigerator. I use warm water to start with and then let them sit in the cooler water till they are thawed even works for large rabbits, and guinea pigs as well. I also put them in ziplock bags most of the time but with the larger rabbits and guinea pigs they go right in helps them thaw a little faster.
