More eating problems

jasonw Jul 06, 2006 01:31 AM

I just dont know what is wrong with Snake. I guess I will be taking her to the vet. She has been off feed for 25 days now. Since her meals are 7 days apart that means her last meal was 32 days ago. She still will not touch a thing. I tryed every size mous eknown to man with no luck. Tryed live, tryed FT and nothing. Acording to the info I read here as well as all over the net her tems and everything are perfect. Any other ideas before incuring a huge vet bill? She has been roaming the enclosure non stop for several dayts now. She couls posably be gravid but acording to the time frame should not bne ready to lay yet. She dose have her lay box witch she spends a lot of time in but she dosen ot even look gravid. Any help is greatly apreciated.

sorry to hear you are having such bad luck. Try the other tricks. Try putting her in a tupperware container with the food over night. Try braining the food (both a F/T and then a live). Try scenting it with Tuna (never worked for me, but has for many others)(again both F/T and live).
She is not housed with the male, right? If so, he could be stressing her out.
Try raising the temps a couple degrees. I found that helped with a couple hatcling ball pythons that I had. I put them in a tupperware container with the food and a heat lamp close by. The ball eat quick, when he had refussed many times before. not sure if this will work with corns, and make sure the snake doese not get too hot. If all else fails, and you feel comfortable, you could force feed. i am not real comfortable with doing that if she is gravid, though. But, you said she is not showing. How many days since the observed mating? If everything fails, take her to the vet. I hope this helps!

You state that she could be gravid. If she is, being off feed is not a problem. Roaming her cage and spending a lot of time in a lay box? That's typical of a gravid female. I would suggest that you take a better look at her. Hold her up by her neck and let her body hang down. Then view her from the side. If she is gravid you will see the belly bulge. Next, let her crawl through your hands and put a slight amount of pressure on her belly scales. If she is gravid, you will feel the eggs. It's very easy to tell this way.
Best of luck.

I just did all that and to my amazment about half way down her body you can see a slight bulge start. This bulg continues for about 12-18" before fading away. I tryed to feel her belly but didnt realy feel much in there while she ran over my hand. The lump looks as if its just food in her belly. Do developing Eggs look like just food in her belly? She h as not taken food for 33 days so her belly should be empty. I do not keep the snakes together. I introduce them then remove the male as soon as mating is finished. I have not observed any mating in well over a month. The last observed mating was on 6-2 has it been long enough for her to start acting like this?

Also remember she has been off feed for 33 days now. So that would mean she went off feed right around the time of the last mating on 6-2. Thanks a million for the help. The first breeding was near the end of May so all the breedings were groups into a week or 2. Thanks agan
