Questions about our Moorish Geckos(pics)

dragoninthemist Jul 06, 2006 01:38 AM

Hello there, long time lurker, first time poster.

My fiance and I run a local rescue here in western Washington, and recently we ended up with these two kids. Now, I haven't had much experiance with Moorish Geckos, other than our huge male.

These two were both tagged as Moorish (Okay, actually crocidile) geckos. Now, the little brown one, he looks like our big guy. Except his tail is rather odd looking. Almost pine cone like. I'm sure this is a silly question, but none of our other geckos have a tail quite like that. Does this indicate that he's lost his tail and regrown it?

Also, the little white one came with the brown one. They called her a Moorish gecko, but she looks nothing like the two brown ones. Oh, I should add, she does have a tail, its just curled away in this pic. :P Could someone out there please help me identify? Thanks in advance guys!

First off, that tail is definitely a regrowth. I have two White Spot geckos (Tarentola Annularis) and the larger of the two has a partial regrowth on her tail. These resemble "croc" geckos enough to make it apparent that your boy there did drop at some point.

I have one small, female Moorish gecko (Tarentola Mauritanica) and she seems to have the ability to alter her coloring according to the time of day or the state of rest. So, your girl is definitely a "croc."

Hope this helps!

Eric
