Baby Jackson

big-dog Jul 06, 2006 07:59 AM

Has anyone brought up baby jackson to adulthood or at least subadulthood? I have one that is going to be 9 months old and he is still tiny.I know they are slower growing then old worl chams but is this typical? He is not showing any signs of metabolic bone disease, his horns are uniformly shaped and he eats regurarly and is well hydrated. I tried increasing the size of the prey I gave to his litter mates but once I went beyond 1/4" sz cricket they bloated and died so I stick to soft bodied prey and keep the crickets tiny but plentiful. I am also concerned because he seems to have a swollen hard mass on one wrist. I pierced this with a sterile needle and no fluid could be squeezed out.,this has since healed with topical ointment> If it were gout would it not form in all joints or is it possible to form in only one? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

First, jax are old world chams just like the others. If yours was from Hawaii it is a decendent of escapees. The species originated in east Africa.

The swollen area could be an abscess. Reptile abscesses are not filled with liquid material like mammals, rather it is a cheesy mass that may not be aspirated out.

His small size may be a result of some trouble with the parents such as poor nutrition. But, chams do vary in size quite a bit, and many cbb animals tend to be smaller than their wc relatives.
