Kathy Love has a book out on breeding Red Rat Snakes aka Corn Snakes. The info works for most American Rat Snakes. Here is a link to her site. It is a good place for a novice to start.

the link didnt work. and i have seen corn snakes and rat snakes aka chicken snakes and they look totally different but i guess they could be the same thing. is there another website? i am not looking for a book.

First, Corn Snakes and Chicken Snakes are not the same, but as far as breeding goes, they can be treated the same. Their ranges overlap in nature. They are both North American Rat Snakes. Since more people keep Corn Snakes for pets then they do Gray Rat Snakes aka Chicken Snakes, it is easier to find books on Corn Snakes.

Here are a few web addresses for sites that sell books on raising and breeding snakes.:

These are both good web addresses.

i didnt think they were the same and im sorry if i sounded rude. and while i do appriciate the effort of looking up the websites i am not looking for a website to buy a book. i am looking for a website with the egg care and hibernating info. i think i mentioned that i was looking it up for a friend and i told him about the book idea. he was not interested. i am looking for the info not a site to bu a book. do you know of any? if not thanks for you time

I hope I didn't come across as being short with you. I know that you are just trying to help a friend. I can tell you off the top of my head that you cool the snakes at 60F for ten weeks and you incubate the eggs at 82F. The eggs take about 70 days to hatch. (I have a clutch American Rat Snake eggs incubating at this time.) There is still a lot of other information that will not be included in a one or two page care sheet. Information that he needs to know. Since he can't surf the web himself for the information, I think he should look at getting a good book on the subject. Many can be had for less then $20.00 USD. If he wants to breed snakes, it can be a very good investment.

i didnt think you were being short with me, quite the opposite actually. and its not that he wants to breed them, they just are. he started out with a few and then cought more and now the guy he sells them to doesnt want them cuz he has too many. so he's let a bunch go. i doubt he is willing spend money on a book but i will pas the info along. thanks for all of your help and good luck with you clutch
