As I recall, the first one was a WC that turned up in North Carolina in the late 1950s. H. B. Bechtel got hold of it, bred it, and the rest is history. A few others have been WC, but so far they've all been due to the same mutant, as far as I know.

Don't remember this information well. As I recall, the charcoal info can be found in Bechtel's book, Amphibian and Reptile Variants. If the anerythristic info in the book is too limited, you can dig through the bibliography at the end of each chapter for the references to the original papers.
