Moldy eggs!

Schubs Jul 06, 2006 02:05 PM

I have a clutch of ten eggs and the one on the bottom has mold. The Verm. was covering that egg up and so I moved the verm. away from the egg and put a paper towel next to the egg. Is there anything I should do right away to make sure I can save the egg. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

You can try putting foot powder on it. Like Tinactin. Spread a layer on it occasionally when it looks wet. That will help keep the mold at bay. But depending on how long the eggs have to go, it might not. Sometimes one here or there just isn't meant to make it. Good luck with it.

Thanks a lot. Mine looks a little worse than in the photos you show. They were layed 6/27/2006. I hope I can save it. I carved away the verm. around the egg and put gold bond on the area of mold. It really smells though. Should the smell disipate and will the rest of the eggs be affected by any of this? Anyways thanks for the advice and I will take photos tomorrow.

In most cases, one bad egg won't effect the rest. But if it smells that bad, it's probably already dead. Did you candle them to make sure they were all fertile? You might be incubating a dud. If you can maneuver around the rest of the clutch well enough, cut the dead egg out. It'll make for a nicer smelling incubation time.

I was going to post something tonight reminding everyone about "liquid band-aides"

I read a post last year regarding applying it when a window starts to appear on an egg, and all I can say is that it probably saved me thousands of dollars worth of eggs/snakes. A few friends tried it with similar success.

Awesome!!
