Western EMERGENCY!

FloridaHogs Jul 06, 2006 02:13 PM

Came home to find this!! This pair was courting this morning, I went to a movie, and then came home to this. Waiting on the vet now, but wondered if you had any insight?? Both are alert, but that is a lot of blood for such little guys. The female is right at 200g and the male 145g.

Oh man, what a nightmare! Is the males hemipenis hanging out? I once found a yellow rat on the side of my house with its hemipenis exposed and very bloddy. The only thing I figured was the female took off on him and caused an injury. Have you noticed if its coming from one or both? My best wishes go out to you and them. I hope for the best.

The bleeding stopped before I even got to the vet. Unsure if the male has lacerations, but the hemipenis was were it should be. The female has some mild lacerations. Appearently they just play to rough. Both have been cleaned up and are alert and active, so now it is a watch for infection and rest. Also will monitor their behavior to see if there are any other issues. Thanks for the best wishes.

The female passed somemore clots, but does not appear to have active bleeding. We will see what the night brings, and how she fares in the morning. She is still very active. I do have a pic of the clots, but didn't know if anyone cared to see (it is kinda gross)

I would suggest you get her on antibiotics now. I lost a male mexican hog this year because he was bit my the female and it got infected from the inside. (not a lot of bleeding or any puncture wounds visible.)Once the infection hits its harder to reverse than if you just start off with it. Just something I would have done if I could have changed it.

They are both doing fine. Just scared me a bit.

Hey Jim, do you recognize those two? That is #7 and the green male. She is still just as hissy as ever!
