That's enough to make me want to hit the Huecos and to stay away from Sheffield.

How does one go about obtaining the key that accesses some of the spots in Hueco Tanks?
Best...

Just shine the road cuts on the main highway - at least 7 alterna there since last July.

Brad,

Both are beautiful animals and shots.....how long have you been back:? I saw Smitty for a couple of days (Sanderson and BG).....he seemed to be having fun...but the night you found two has been his most successful night, at least the last time I talked to him...hope things are going well and talk to you soon....G

Thanks G! I've been back since the 30th. Yeah, as far as alterna go, I've been talking to Colin and as of today, he still hasn't found any more. I told him he needed his lucky rabbits foot, me! That felt so good to get the monkey off my back first thing like that. Like you, there are many aspects to what I enjoy about herping west Texas. But nobody can ever say they feel good about leaving without seeing an alterna. O.K. let me restate that, how about 100% satisfied without seeing an alterna? So it was nice to knock it out early and not feel the absolute need to find one before leaving. I'm sure you're very aware of the feeling.

By the way, did you ever get those diffusers from Gary Fong? I heard from someone along the way that you got some. I've not been real satisfied with their latest addition. Lately, I've been using diffuser that comes built into my 580's. The light is pretty good but I can't seem to get away from some serious shadows on the back left side of the subjects using these diffusers. I'm not done trying to figure it out yet though. I'll just keep playing with various diffusers, including the built in ones, until I get it.

Someday, I'll have to stop by your place and check out your studio set up. Bob, David Tobler and I were thinking about dropping in last time we were up that way. We figured that coming in unannounced wasn't too cool, so we didn't.

Take care,

Brad

You guys are invited anytime! Seriously....yes, I did buy the diffusers from Gary Fong...they are pretty cool, but, push comes to shove, I bring out my dual flash from Canon and call it good, or at least OK...they put out a lot of light....AND with the nice light limestone of TX or light Granite of CA/AZ....light goes everywhere.

As far as the monkey on the back, I agree, it is nice to get the alterna sighting out early....I love seeing the other animals/flora in the region, but, the ultimate is still alterna.....sorry lep fans, just me.....

Take care and hope to see you soon....G

found 2 more this week too bad one was dor. The other is a nice 30" female. Seen at least a dozen snakes each of the last 3 nights. Scuts have dropped their babies, and the little bastards are everywhere. Other notables are 4 leps, 9 blacktails, 2 viridis, and several splendida, including a 4' monter.
