I BELIEVE MY BOAS ARE BREEDING

hawiiangecko Jul 07, 2006 01:52 AM

its 2;37 so i'm not going to take a pic tonight but here's the story: i fed both my boas and 2 days after my female looked remarkably bigger down the entire length of her body. she looked really, really thick. as i am aware of, during the females pre-ovulation, she swells up, right? so i put in my male who went around the cage smelling everything. the next day, nothing, last night( its past 12;00 soo) there was a HUGE thunderstorm and i remembered people telling me air pressure can set them off in some way. either with breeding or giving birth, i cant remember. so i went in and checked on them, and the male was completely on top of the female, the entire length down, and his tail was level with hers. i've heard too many stories about how thier tales fall into this position and its not actually breeding. well i sat down and watched them and habitually, every minute, she twitches the last quarter of her tail. i'll see if they are in the same position tomarrow and if i can see the actually mating. just wanted to post this to see what you guys think. i'll know for sure if she does ovulate. i have the vpi video so i'll watch that tomarrow as well. any advice? if she does ovulate, i'll put in an order for a rhinoraxx. also, how many frozen ratpups should i buy to be safe if she is gravid? if there are 25 babies, they eat once a week, thats 100 pups a month, about 4-500?

I haven't bred boas yet, but the tail twitching sounds like she is telling the male "no". She may not be ready or could already be gravid.

I wouldn't get that many pups yet, she may not end up having that many. They don't eat right away so you could be safe ordering them after she gives birth.

Also a lot of the time baby boas seem to like live food the first feeding. Im sure if you are patient theyd go for f/t. They wont usually eat though until after thier first shed because they still have the yolk inside to feed off of.
