what size uth do i need for a glass tank thats 3 feet by 1 foot, i think its a 20 gal? can you give me a specific size based on brand or in inches, depending how they measure. my substrate is rock, really big ones, dont worry they are glued down and too big for the gecko to swallow.

Written on the package the UTH comes in it will specify what size tanks that size UTH is ment for.

the ones online at petco.com dont, they only say the size of the pad.

On the package for ZooMeds ReptiTherm UTHs it says what gallon terrarium size that the pad is best for on the front. I don't know about any other brands but right now I'm looking at the packaging for the last one I bought, so I know it's on there. Different brands have different size heaters that work on the same size tanks. The ones from ZooMeds are half the size of the other brand my boyfriend has and they are both made for 10-20 gallon tanks. You may just need to run to the pet store and read the packaging.

the very bottom of the page includes descriptions with the size it's made for. Hope the link works.

Sounds to me more like a 30L tank than a 20L if it's 3 feet by 1 foot.

Anyway, I've heard the UTH should cover about 1/3 the length of the tank which would make an ideal UTH about 1 foot wide-ish... I think...

Wattage probably matters as well as UTH size (the two should be related though).

im not sure its a long though, and its the same size as my turtle's tank, and tat holds about 20 gal. Im not sure about the height size, i dont remember but i think its about 16 high.

Rule of thumb is that it cover one third of the floor of the tank. This way critters have room to get away from the heat if they feel it necessary.

Hmmm... May not be a 30L tank specifically but it is about 30 gallons (probably more like 28-29 when you take into account fraction not actually occupied by water (in the case of an aquarium)

1 ft x 3 ft x 4/3 ft = 4 cubic ft.

4 cubic ft * 7.48 gal/cubic ft = 29.92 gallons.

BTW, I have a 20L tank and it's dimensions are about 30" long by 12" deep by 12 1/2" high, it's volume is about 2.7 cubic ft or about 20.29 gallons.

Downstairs I have a 29 gal tank with the following dimensions. 30" long by 12" deep by 18 1/2 high, it's volume is 3.85 cu ft or in reality about 28.8 gal or more like 27 when you take into account the volume of glass.

Hope this helps.
