2300 grams and hides.

For snakes over 2300grams what do you use for hides? I have an enclosed rack and I’m buying a female and was told she needs a hide. She isn’t that big yet but I am still curious as i do have females that big. Small litter boxes maybe? Also do you think adding fake foliage would work? I’m talking about the kind with the suction cups…I would remove them and just lay it in the back so they have that to get under. Ideas? Opinions?

Mine actually do fine hiding under their water dishes. I use the big plastic dog bowls you can get at Wal-Mart for $1 each. They have a ridge underneath that the snakes fit themselves into and when they get dirty you can just throw them away. Can't beat em. I have a couple females that are over 2500 grams and they are perfectly content with them.

Those $2 litter boxes from walmart work very well. Just make a big hole on the bottom, flip it upside down, and you're set.

it can be tough to find something that has the large footprint for a larger snake, while still being low to the ground and a tight fit.

a number of plastic planters and bases can be found at Home Depot, and we have used rubbermaid trash can lids for years with large Balls and Bloods and stuff with great success. the Vision bowls also work well, as they are hollow underneath and make for a tight fit.

Hey, I use the big Plastic Oil pans from Walmart and my 3000 gram girl easily fits in their! But trash can lids work well and well as cat litter pans!

Thanks Erik

I keep and breed all kinds of crested morphs, Henkeli leaf-tail geckos, Mossy leaf-tail geckos, Lined leaf-tail geckos, and ball python morphs!

I use a litter pan with a hole cut out of it. (with one of those circular drill attachments used to make doorknob holes.)

I bought shallow clay pots from the local garden center and chipped away an entrance "doorway". These are cool because they are heavy, and when a snake goes opaque, you can mist the hide, which can take a lot of moisture, to raise the humidity.

Large plastic flower pot bottoms, cut a square out of the side and it works well.

My 2500g female uses one of those plastic "Igloo" round houses made for guinea pigs/ferrets. Get them at petsmart or petco or from many online shops that sells critter stuff. Baby snakes I use the hamster size igloo. They are semi-transparent.. some snakes don't mind that but others do. If that causes a problem for the snake you can just spray paint the insides with black to make it more solid.

Just cut a hole in the end,or just about any type of box works well, heck I've even use a Ramon noodle box.
