New Hatchling Feeding Problems

reptilicus81 Jul 07, 2006 12:04 PM

All four of my hatchlings born 6/11, shed 6/20, are striking at their food, but not constricting it. They do not strike at me, but the second a rat is presented they start striking it every few seconds, but none of them has actually tried to constrict it and eat it. The hatchlings are all about 70 g, and I am attemping to feed them live fuzzys.

Is there a reason why hatchling balls that have not eaten yet would prefer mice over rats? Just curious

Most need the movement of a live hopper mice to peak their interest. Once you give them a couple meals they'll usually move over to whatever you want to feed them.

yes balls prefer mice to rat pinks.....as Corey said......rat pink don't move....they don't have hair either..that too helps.....

I fed a batch of babies first meal the other day....rat pinks (I never do this but why not)....none ate.....2 days later gave them hopper mice.....all ate.......

if small hops don't work use dark colored mice...if that didn't work....use white...LOL......balls do what they want.....

balls suck at times.........like from 12:01 am till 11:45 pm ......
