Hatching Info

stiletto Jul 07, 2006 12:07 PM

My eggs are at day 57 and I have a friend who keeps telling me to make sure they are moist enough. I was under the impression that if eggs were not moist enough they would shrivel up a bit and that meant you needed to add water. He is suggesting that if they are not kept moist enough, they won't be able to break out of the egg (shell too hard). I am anxiously awaiting these things to hatch, so I want to make sure they have good conditions to get out.

I wouldn't worry too much,my first cutch to hatch this year took 64 days to start pipping. That's about 9 days later than normal for my setup. jeff

Eggs will often shrivel (aka dimple) when they're within a couple weeks to a few days of hatching. No amount of water will plump them up. They're dimpling not due to dryness, but due to the snake absorbing yolk. Given you're on day 57, don't worry, it's normal.

I've never heard of high moisture being required to aid hatching.

Well they aren't dimpled or anything. This was more to aid hatching. Its my first batch so I guess I am a bit paranoid and not knowing what to expect. Trying to make sure I get some hatchlings!
