Do you think it will make it?

happysurgeman Jul 07, 2006 01:34 PM

Yesterday I caught this Redtail here in South Florida. But it looks like its been feeding on lizards if anything because it soo thin i felt its ribs when picking it up. I havent examined it completely because its mean and already bloodied my hand.

good news it ate a mouse for me a couple of hrs into its capture

Have you ever seen a boa in this shape before make a comeback?

eaten a rodent for you already so it should'nt have a problem picking up size with proper feeding. I would keep it away from your other snakes and treat it for internal/external parasites if you plan to keep it.

lack of food, I think he will make it. If he is sick and is wasting away due to illness, I doubt it even if you begin treatment. Do not get carried away with the feeding. I would give him one small meal every two weeks. The last thing you want is to feed him too large a meal or too often. If he regurges at this stage, that will fifnish him. Boas can hang on for a very long time, even when very emaciated. Good luck with him and take it slow.

Just remember slow and steady wins the race, meaning that you don't need to try to pump him up to quickly. If he will eat a small meal every 2 weeks go with that for a couple months then move him up to every week. I think he will be fine but I'm sure he could use a dose of Panacur for parasites. Please keep us posted. Vinnie
