Very nice snakes.
ALSO, this is a great example of some of the differences you will see in rainbowboas coming from different areas of South America. Just like there are significant differences in Kings and Corns from different parts of the USA, I see these types of geographical differences between different locals of rainbowboas. The first difference that I see is the thickness of the dorsal markings. One has markings that are just one scale thick and the other has thick black markings two scales thick in some places. The other difference that I often see when you have thin versus thick markings is apparent in your two animals. The animal with thinner markings has many more dorsal circles that are distinct and not touching any neighboring marking. The animal with thicker markings has many “chained” together dorsal circles that usually meet at the spine and form a long unbroken “chain” or “beaded necklace”. I would bet money (or baby snakes) that these two snakes came from different litters and were probably not closely related. I would also guess that they came from different geographical areas, but I do not have enough South American field experience to allow me to nail down the locality. I would guess/suggest that the thicker markings came from Peru or Southwestern Colombia while the thinner markings came from central or southern Brazil.
The last thing that I cannot see that well is on the side crescents. Although the thicker marked animal has LARGER and more colorful side markings, I would imagine that it also has more side markings that touch other black markings (similar to the Dorsal Circles touching in places). From the photos, I cannot see any side crescent markings that touch. The Darker/Thicker one is a great looking specimen. My guess is that it will also be much more RED and have more distinct color change between day and night with much whiter sides. Will you post the same type of photo in a year or so…I would like to test my forecasting.
Good luck with these guys…BHH
