Cornsnake and gopher breeding together?

JanuaryM Jul 08, 2006 01:28 PM

I have a cornsnake (about 14 years old) and a gopher snake (about 12 years old) who have been in the same cage for over five years. This morning the Corn snake laid eggs. Can they breed together? I always thought my corn was a female, now i know for sure..lol. Anyone else have experience with this? Now that i see someone posted about their corn laying eggs w/o a mate i wonder. Others have told me that is very rare. My corn has never laid eggs before. Any input from anyone?

Thanks
January

It's possible. I can't remember whether it's Super Corns or Turbo corns that are part gopher snake, but I believe it's one of the two.

Corns will also lay unfertilized eggs sometimes, if they've not paired up with another snake. What do the eggs look like/feel like?

Hiya,

Thanks for your response.

It has been month since she started laying the eggs and they arent any good. She is still layin and has just a few more to lay. I have taken her to the vet and he said that the two breeds dont breed together. Even if they arent any good, this was a whole new experience for me. Soooo i still dont know for sure the gopher snake's sex..haha

...yes, in general, something as distantly related as a gopher snake will not willingly breed with a cornsnake. Some trickery is involved to get something like that to happen.
