La viva loca
Some may disagree, but i would freeze that animal.. or feed it to another king if you want to put the body to good use..
I just added some egg white. Lets see what happens in a few days. Yuummmmmmmm!
I even left the egg shell in. I will change it out for a fresh one 3x per day.
dont know what to say but at least the carian flies didnt take over.It looks like yolk absorbsion issue. i have a hybrid that is a yearling and has a bubble in the bellybutton area that has balloned a little, she is a pain ,and may take food every third feeding.best of luck ,but care for the fitest and if you have time and money care for the not so lucky hatchling.euthinatia is an option!?it'll probably be a slow grower and????????just my opinion, prob not a breeder.
Chris
If she absorbs it and it heals then there is no reason she will not turn out to be a breeder.
i know she is not a corn but in kathy loves corn book she says to leave the animal in a deli cup with a small amount of water so the sac doesnt stick to the deli cup and that usually helps the absorb it, and as far a flies go i think if you kept her in a dark closet that would take care of the flies tend to leave things alone in a dark closet

Thats why I tried the egg whites. Since the snake did not absorb the cord in its egg. I am experimenting. Ff the snake was premature then egg whites might provide what the snake egg did.
i agree if it recovers, not to say it will or will not, but certain sought after morphes are acually deformaties according to my vet who said that certain morphed animals could be suseptible to other inherant problems. Once again i have not diagnosed or prescribed your(snake's)problem lol.
i dont know if that is an inherant problem but if it is ?
peace ,chip-chip-cheerio,cheers my friend.Chris

I would have to respectfully disagree with your vet. This topic has been covered here and vetinerians have some of the worst info out there on tis type of things. Don't forget vets are only taught what they know. Some graduated many years ago and carry this info with them they learned in school. My gym teacher back 1975 told us weight training is not good for football players. LOL!.
Unless your vet has kept and bred many generations (lets say at least 20 years)of snakes there research is unsunstantiatedff.
i agree with you ,people doctors are the same(or not)some people go to school and become something their not, growing up a fisherman/captain i can tell you somethings cant be taught to some people so education is relative and instructive.
but how about vision problems w/ amels etc.example of multi-disability
I don't think any snakes with red eyes have vision problems. At least I have never heard of any such thing
You can't compare other animals to snakes and apply the same. For instance a lot of people used to think that cross breeding snakes will create infertile offspring because of mules (horses x donkey). Just does not apply across the board like that.
Well actually I would not consider morphs to be deformities, but they are mutations, and certain desirable characteristics can be associated with a buildup of deleterious mutations that can be fixed in the genetics of these morphs (especially when they are created with backcrossing).

Because I cut a slit in the egg and I figure the snake was premature emerging from its egg because of that. In the past these things dry up and the snake dies.
Its just an experiment. The snake will otherwise die anyway.
Anyone got and other ideas?
This is only my second year breading lost all the eggs last year do to my inexperience. I was just curious if this was something I may need to do when my eggs hatch.
Thanks,
Miller

No its not something you need to do unless it works. I will update.
I am very curious to see if your egg white idea works... i have never tried this method myself but the only reccomendation i would have is to change the egg whites as frequently as possible.
I have had hatchlings emerge from the egg with a much smaller cord still attached and it usualy dries up and falls off in a day or two and the animal was fine.. To be honest this usually happend whan i "helped/rushed" the snake out of the egg.. which i don't do anymore..
I really hope you prove me wrong in reccomending that you freeze the animal... And, i agree that if this baby does survive there should be no issue with future breeding.
Please, keep us posted.

The egg whites is an interesting idea but it doesn't seem sanitary or necessary to me. In the egg the hatchling is separated from the eggwhites by membranes. Most of the egg white by the end of egg developement is actually metabolic waste product from the digestion of yolk. (not the case with unfertalized chicken eggs)
Personally I have had success putting them on wet paper towels and gooping up the yolk sac with some petroleum jelly. I have also used KY and mineral oil with success but to be honest I have never had one as bad as yours.
It is tough to tell from the pics... is the yolk protruding through the normal slit in the center of the scutes or is it bursting out of the side where the belly scutes meet the normal scales???
good luck
The intestines are protruding out. What I am trying to do is keep it from frying or sticking (paper towel will make it stick).
I will try the KY jelly tommorow.. But since last night it has retracted a small amount so if it still retracts I will not change this method.. I changed the egg whites this morning. If the snake does not improve then I will try the jelly.
I dont know if you are willing to sink the money into it but a vet would probobly be able to push it back in and close it with a stitch or two. Unlike the yolk sac the intestines have no mechanism to move and pull back into the body cavity. Without intervention I fear that they may just get more irritated until secondary infection takes over.
The only reason I dont like the egg white is that it is extremely nutrient rich and will RAPIDLY become a soup of bacteria. This is then entering the body cavity of the snake which is open to the environment. Even if you change the egg there is still stuff inside him.
After seeing your pics I've had it on my mind all day. I think if it happens to me again with a yolk sac, I am going to mix some neosporin/mycitracin/bacitracin with KY and put a thin layer of this on the bottom of a bare deli cup.
cheers
I already took the snake off the egg whites this morning fearing it as as you say.. I might try your cocktail next. Great idea BTW. Thanks!
Today I asked one of the vets that I work with what they would do and they suggested using surgilube. You would have to get it from a vet or doctor but its cheap. Its like KY with a little clorahexadine to keep it sterile.
Rainer I would almost bet there are more problems with that snake than what you can see, but who knows?
Learn to sew??
Good luck. Looks like it was going to be a beauty.

You are probably right Mark. Thats why the experiment.
I just took it off the egg and put in a empty deli cup with a small amount of water. Keeeping fingirs crossed. Maybe should have left the egg in (?)
Beleive me if I knew how to do sutures -(sp?)and this snake would be fine.
