Looking for info.

Sakrafyce Jul 08, 2006 05:21 PM

I'm having trouble finding information online. I want to purchase my first snake next month when they have the big convention in Daytona Beach, FL as I like in Tampa. I mainly looking for info housing, what will I need, what's best to feed snakes [alive, dead, frozen, etc]

I have no idea what kind of snake I want at the moment. I do know I want something cool, and exotic looking. My stepfather used to own a Ball Python and Cali Kingsnake...so i'd like to get something different.

Sorry if this post doesn't make too much sense, just basically looking to find some good, solid info for new snake owners. So I know what i'm getting myself into and can plan properly before rushing into things.

I would suggest a Honduran Milksnake - they have several very gorgeous looking morphs of that snake available, and you are bound to find one at a decent price at the reptile show.

Most captive bred snakes that will eat rodents take frozen/thawed - and that is probably best.

There is a decent care sheet for Honduran Milk Snakes here:

An african house snake sounds very well. They are well priced good feeders and arnt to expensive.
Also honduran milks can be jumpy and may have feeding problems

I've not heard of either but I suppose it is possible.

The one I had - the only feeding problem was that it couldn't seem to get enough

I know some tricolors have feeding problems as hatchlings, really prefering lizards - but I don't think Hondurans do, and any _respectable_ breeder should have them feeding upon rodents before they sell em if they do.

I've never kept an African House Snake. I have heard they make excellent pets though.
