This is Jones. "He" arrived on a shipment of houseplants at my old job. I have no idea what kind of frog he is, but I'm pretty sure he's a tree frog of some kind. Also, he did have a body pattern when he was found. I don't know if it was a juvenile pattern thing or a seasonal thing as I found him in spring.

So to help narrow down where the frog may be from (ya right) the place the plants came from gets shipments from Florida, Hawaii, North and South California, and basically the entire southern US.

He chirps 6 to 8 times per round of chirping, only 2 or 3 rounds of chirps though. Occasionally he'll chirp in the day, but normally only at night around 11 or 11:30. The cooler it is the earlier he'll chirp at night.

Does anyone have an idea what kind of frog he is? He's really cool and I'd like to get a few more.

Thanks,
Barb

Hey Barb.. do you still have the frog?
Can you get me a good shot of it from the top looking down, and one from the side.. it would help if it was not on a background of similar tones too..

I have a guess, but if you can get me those shots, I will get you an ID.. BTW, is it that color during the day? and are there darker spots on the hind legs?

Yep, I have him. He didn't look like any of the native frogs I've seen, so I didn't want to release him into the wild.
As far as spots on the legs...I don't see much. There's a lot of little warts though.

These pictures were taken at about 8 pm tonight. Hope they help in figuring out what Jones is. Thanks for helping me!

Alas, Jones died about a month ago in the extreme heat wave we had. His chirps will be greatly missed, especially between 11 and 11:30 pm, when he consistently called. He was my cute little froggie.

Also, I found more pictures to look at and I strongly suspect Jones was a Cuban Tree Frog. I'm not positive, but the morphology and coloring strongly correlated.

Still, if anyone has an idea of what he was, or thinks he was a Cuban Tree Frog, please reply. I am still curious about his species.

Thank you,
Siri
