According to alot of literature I've read, a steady mealie diet is actually preferred over the crix. They are slower to disperse into the tank, and easier for the leos to eat.

I believe it is as long as you feed the mealworms very nutritious and varied food, which you should be doing anyway.

If you haven't noticed by now, everyone will tell you something different and bring up that nutrient chart. I've seen it.. looked at it and still feed all my geckos mealworms from the time they hatch. I've had no problems.. one of my blizzard hatchlings attained a 7 inch length in less than 3 months from hatching date so he must be getting the proper amount of nutrients as he isn't sick.. he isn't thin and he's still growing. Mealworms, properly gutloaded and supplemented make a very good diet thats readily kept, if you breed them, you know exactly whats going into your reptile and the convenience and ease of keeping mealworms just adds to their attraction as a feeder. Crickets are a pain in the behind. I know.. I tried to work with them.. breed them and they kept dieing so I finally gave up.. got myself Superworms and mealies.. my Superworms are going strong and so are my mealies again. In the end it comes down to owner's preference...most leo's will eat when they're hungry regardless of the type of prey items available.
