Another stupid snake movie...

agalinis Jul 09, 2006 12:55 PM

Once again, snakes are being used in Hollywood as a subject or terror for some stupid as# horror movie. "Snakes on a Plane."

Please...how stupid is this? I guess they take over a whole plane and a few people will finally overcome them and safely land the plane...zzzzzzz!

I feel like kicking the producer, actors, directors, screewriters, and any technical advisor right square in the nuts for this totally idiotic movie.

The plot doesn't really interest me, but  - the kind of people who can't separate entertainment from reallity are generally hopeless as far as snake phobias go anyway.

Doesn't bother me any more than any other movies about animals attacking humans (or humans attacking humans or robots attacking humans ...)

Hey it was mentioned in REPTILES magazine (the one with the Moloch/thorny devil on the cover, February 04 i think) so it's not stupid! lol just kidding.

have you just heard of this move now? Like i said, it was mentioned in the one REPTILES issue, but it also has received lots and lots and lots and lots of hype because it's appears to be such a stupid movie idea.

I think people will be finding the movie too funny and stupid and will not pay much attention to the snakes to be "scary, evil, demonic messengers of satan" or some other crapolla that gives snakes a bad rep. Besides, it is impossible to eliminate humans' irrational fear of snakes. The fear has lasted since the beginning of man. It;s probably a fear that is natural for every animal, even certain monkeys have developed a certain cry that means "snake" in order to warn the rest of the group.

That's not true dude...there are cultures were people are taught to respect and revere snakes and not fear them outright. I love snakes but if I see anything that scares/suprises me I'll react in a primitive way. That's a human response toward safety in general, and not limited to snakes. After the initial shock, it's all culture.

I've converted many a person to at least not kill a snake. They usually call me and ask me what it is, I go get it, or they chase it off with a broom stick or something. At least the snakes are hacked to pieces.

But you are right, some people will never change, but you can't blame it on biology...it's culture.

billstevenson Jul 09, 2006 05:42 PM

...just kidding dude

FunkyRes Jul 10, 2006 01:18 PM

I've smuggled snakes, a snapping turtle (into California - big no no), Red Legged Frogs (the northern subspecies, collected from my brothers property in WA - not the endangered subspecies), lizards, etc. on planes.

Granted - this was all in the 90s before 9/11 but it isn't that hard to do. Well, at least wasn't that hard to do.

All my flights were domestic though.

On an only slightly more positive note, a what-looks-like-it-might-be-a sinaloan milk appears briefly in the new "The Pirates of the Carribean" movie.

I wasn't expecting it, and it only was a brief shot of human aversion to the snake. However, my husband turned to me and stage whispered "Hey baby, don't you have one of those?" The woman sitting next to me muttered, "Dear God, help me. . ." and moved to sit on the other side of her husband. She spent the next 5 minutes glaring at me.(lol)

Now that is a good snake-movie story!

...people do not separate fact from fiction. Anybody outside the hobby isn't going to have the same passion for snakes that we do, so they are going to freak out when they see a Corn on the big screen. I am interested in seeing the audience's reactions when they release the Garters, Milks, Kings, and - Heaven forbid! - a Burmese Python!

I personally have to see this flick cause I want to see snakes, even though I know they used a Florida King as a stand-in for an Inland Taipan...LOL.

I want to see this movie just because I know how bad and stupid it's going to be. I love stupid movies. This might be one of the greatest horrible movies ever made.

I don't know about sneaking snakes onto a plane, but me an a few of my snake collectin' buddies'll be sneaking a few beers into the theatre to help make this flick more palatable.

I plan to netflix it (at some point) - don't have to worry about sneaking beer :D

Very few movies get my ticket sales anymore. It seems that cgi effects have become more important to hollywood than things like plots that are actually interesting.
