Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me about black throat skinks. How big do they get? What type of habitat do they require? How long do they live? Can you tame/handle them? Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Would you happen to know of any websites which have info on these skinks? I recently got one from a friend who was getting rid of it. I have other lizards and reptiles so I've been feeding it mealworms, and some greens and cooked chicken. Do you know what continent they're from so I can make sure I have the right terrarium setup?
Thanks!
you wont find much on them...
I've only seen ads for them for sale online, but no real info other than Mabuya...which is an African region(i think). Is yours eating chicken?? I thought they were mainly insect-eaters.

I just got the skink last night. So far, I haven't noticed him eating firsthand because he is really wild whenever I go near the cage. He jumps all over the place and runs like crazy. I put about ten mealworms in last night and some chopped chicken. The mealworms were gone about an hour later so I'm assuming he ate them. He is burrowing constantly and I'm always worried that he has escaped because he digs so deep into the dirt and stays there for so long. Today was the first time he let me stroke his back, so hopefully he will mellow out once he is more comfortable in his new environment.
Probably not the best skink for handling anyways. hook him up with a nice terrarium, live plants, etc...
just stick with dusted crickets. I doubt birds(chicken) are a part of its natural diet. And try to find a supply of silkworms, as they are very nutritious compared to mealies which are just ho-hum.
