Is it to late for a hook up?

HerpZillA Jul 10, 2006 02:45 PM

I do not know all the rules/guidelines for breeding corns. I picked up a nice female Amel, that was a pet for several years so I know she was not bred this year, or any other.

I had bought a male Amel early in the year that was brumated and knocked up [is that a correct term? ] an Amel Zig Zag I bought. So I put this new Amel in with him. He's very interested. But it hit me it may be to late in the year?

Is it to late for a hookup?

I am by far not an expert, but my opinion would be that if both snakes are willing and healthy enough and you have the ability to care for the babies, then go for it. You may not be able to get the female back up to brumation weight though. So that is something you'd have to take into consideration.

ya only have to worry about brumation weight if ya brumate them..........a lot of people dont and it works just fine

All good points. Male is a beast. Female is a bit over weight. Not a lot but just a little heavier than I would like.

They seemed to be interested when I first but them together today, but I did not see a hook up. I'm not going to push it, a few days together and that's it.

I've been working on taping my good camera together as my dog broke it! Then maybe new picks of my corns.

Just for the record, I make a reference to a pet shop, so those that read this will understand.

I help/work for an old friend at his shop. I pretty much can do anything I want. Like taking this snake to breed for next year. Some stuff is truly mine, some is on a loan? Some stuff we just have no idea lol. It is a very different but GREAT type of work environment. It's more like I work for my brother or uncle.

He has "given" me 3 of my Amazon parrots. Ya just can't beat that.

So I hope to learn some of breeding ins and outs, so he can be somewhat self sufficient. We just had 26 boas born, and waiting on 14 ball python eggs. So I hope I'm having a positive effect.

But for some reason, I'm really getting hooked into corns, which I never liked before? Go figure?

Thanks

tom
