he may be in shed. sometimes the shed around the nose will cause a whistling sound when the snake breathes. if he isnt in shed, then increase the heat to between 88 and 90F and get the humidity to around 70%. schedule an appointment with your vet to bring him in if the snake's condition does not improve in the next 2-3 days.

I just got a 5-6 ft female Jungle carpet. the previous owner wasn't taking very good care of it and didn't even have a working heater in the cage. I fixed it up and the snake is quite tame when handled. however since i brought it home (and especially after eating last night) it makes this noise. at first i thought it was a respitory infection but now i'm not sure. its not so much a wheezing a sound that reminds me of breathing with a stuffy nose. it isn't constant, only when provoked and even then its like every 2nd-3rd breath.

one of my ball pythons had what i think was a minor RI (had slight high pitched wheezing) and another one of my BPs has hissed at me before. this sound doesn't really sound like either but more like a hiss.

as you can see i am clueless. thanks in advance!

my coastal female hisses all the time. at first people thought it was an RI but then noticed that there were no other symptoms. after me having her for over 2 years she still does it. which has lead me to wonder if snakes can have asthma. that might explain the constant or nearly constant wheezing or hissing.

my jcp is about a year old,3 foot male. i have had him for about 2 months. he is my 2nd snake, the other was a really small milk snake. i have noticed that he 'whistles' when he breathes as long as ive had him. i dont know if its just that you can hear snakes breathing, as i am fairly new to snakes, or it is a problem. should i take him to a vet immediately since he has been doing this for a while? his temps are 88-90 day,80-82 at night at the hot end, and between 55-70% hunidity (i try to keep it closer to70, but sometimes it falls). thanks.
