Do you guys use a humitidy chamber when your cali kings are about to shed? If so could i just put damp paper towels in there?

A water dish they can crawl through with fresh water always available should be sufficient. At least it always has been for me.

I guess if you have dry air from air conditioning maybe their could be a problem, but I doubt it.

I use a humididty chamber for almost all of my snakes almost all year. I think that it is an integral part of their habitat. Even desert species spend much of their time deep inside underground holes whis have much higher humididty then one would expect in the desert. Letting your snakes choose their humidity is a very underrated aspect of herp keeping.

I use solid color boxes (the point is so they feel like they are securely underground), filled to the top with spagnum moss. I keep them at the cool end. My snakes use these all year long to hide, shed, lay eggs in, ect.

A clear shoebox with damp paper towel is better then nothing, and they will use it. But you can do a lot better without too much effort.

What do you make your boxes out of? I have AP giving me an estimate on some lower versions of their hides for me. I tried using that fusion plastic paint on some rubbermaids but it smelled for a long time(that was in winter though, maybe outside would go better on airing them out)
Bob.
