Question on hets from different breeders ????

jusmebabe Aug 02, 2003 09:42 AM

I was wondering if a 100% het albino from one breeder bred with a 100% het albino from another breeder will likely produce the same results as if they were from the same breedr (or bloodline)? I have read a sheet on what produces what but it didn't talk about what i asked.
Please keep it simple as i am only curious about it.

They will produce some albinos if they are of the same strain. For example if you bred two hets of the sharp strain albinos together you would end up with aprox 1 in 4 albinos. However, if you crossed one that was het for sharp strain and one that was het for kahl strain then you would end up with all normal looking boas. They would be 50% het for each strain though. Reason for this is that there are different ways to keep pigment from showing up.

I'm pretty sure that the sharp and kahl strains are incompatable that way, but not 100%. I do know that there are albino strains in other species that are that way though.

As long as they are the same strain....it should still produce the same average amount of albinos.

100% het kahl from breeder A x 100% het kahl from breeder A = 25% normal 25% albino 50% het for albino

100% het kahl from breeder A x 100% het kahl from Breeder B =
25% normal 25% albino 50% het for albino

But one good thing about getting them from different people is you avoid the chance of the snakes being closely related.
