Yearling Tank Sizes

omerfriedman Jul 10, 2006 11:27 PM

I have my 3-3.5 ft dumerils in a 20G tank. I have a 55G that I want to move him to but I read that putting smaller dumerils into bigger tanks causes stress and they stop eating. What is the ideal tank size for a snake this big?

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my 4" (apprx 5lbs I think) male is currently in a 55g, and I want to move him to something bigger as soon as I can, as I don't feel it's wide enough for him as he's fairly thick, but that's just me.

Mine was in a 20g till he was about 6 mos old, I just couldn't see him fitting in it at his size now.

Wow that would be a tight squeeze! My ~5 foot male would never fit in a 20 g. I would def. move him into something larger. A 55 gallon will work for now, but you will have to upgrade again by the time he is adult. In my experience, too big tanks are more of a problem for hatchlings, so you should be fine.
