Hi,

I'm not sure anyone has much experience specifically with scarlet snake eggs. I would bet they incubate just like other colubrid eggs - on a damp, but not wet, medium at temps in the low 80s. The way I do it is to mix vermiculite and water until the vermiculite just barely holds together when you squeeze it, and then put the eggs in little depressions in the vermiculite in a closed box either in an incubator or a shelf in a warm room, and wait.

Please post how things work out - I think more than one of us would like to have scarlet snake eggs to incubate.

Also, did you breed them or are these from a female gravid when you got her?

Thanks,
Billy

these eggs were found by a member of the Virginia Herpetological Society and where identified as Scarlet Snake eggs. There were only four of them and 2 where left where they were to stay "wild". The person that found them is attempting to incubate them and I was trying to find info for him. Basically he is duplicating as close as possible the environmental conditions he found them in and see whay happens. If this works out them we will have more info on them as well. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

One more question - how did they decide they were scarlet snake eggs?

it was just an educated guess bassed on the description, size ( maybe 1 inch in length) and low number (4). Here is a link to a pic of the eggs. Let me know what you think.

Hi,

The link didn't work - apparently I need to be a member, but I don't think I'd be able to ID the eggs even if I could see them. I'm not sure what would distinguish them from eggs of other similar-sized colubrids. Anyhow, I guess we'll know for sure if and when they hatch.

Cheers,
Billy
