Was feeding my '05 holdbacks last night and several were looking fabulous so I took some pics this morning.

First up is a group shot. In it are two Hypo's, Dottie is more orange/tangerine and Mickey is mostly toward the right, you can see both have fantastic crescents. Also in there are three normals ( how can I call my holdbacks normals?) towards the left is BO-M5-08, one of my bullseyes, in the middle is SA-PO-01, she has no crescents at all and towards the right is BU-M5-16, he's one of my holdback males. I love this shot as it shows a LOT of variety in colors/patterns.

A individual pic of SA-PO-01, aren't her sides crazy? Her colors are very intense, I just can't capture them with the camera.

And last up is a shot of BU-M5-16, I really love it when the dorsal markings are a different shade than the background, it really makes them POP out at you!!

very hard to get, think of one snake and how hard it can be to get it to hold more or less still. Now add a secpond, mind you, when one moves, the other moves, 10x as hard. Now add a third and fourth and fifth. I had to do it in a tub with the lid on, take the lid off for a quick shot and put the lid back. Still only got one decent shot.

First time I tried it....I had them escaping all over....none fully got away but was close!!

I do the lid trick alot.. you can also use a bowl or a bucket alot of times to get the shot.. usually the snake will hold still for a second after the bucket/bowl is removed and can give some nice "glamour" shots.. for small snakes, you can use your hands (or have a helper use their hands.. that way you get the shot.. and they get bit).

Are very nice, you have such beautiful snakes. I can't wait until I can post pics of my very own.

I produced all three of the normals, I can't take credit for the hypo's but will be producing them as well in two years.

Yup, they are hot. Hypos are definitely great, hope to be producing them in 2 years as well.

Very cool group photo. The sides of SA-PO-01 are unreal. I've haven't seen them like that before. I think your holdbacks are far from normal!

rainbowsrus Jul 11, 2006 06:19 PM

Yeah, I really like big fat crescents, even more so when they are a different color then the background.

But I was floored when I saw SA-PO-01 for the first time, she only has a few scales of crescent, almost all side spots are black with that center spot....way cool:

How long has it taken you do acquire such fantastic Rainbows? I am hoping that the only reason I don't have such pretty snakes is because I'm green and fairly new (and always broke financially).

rainbowsrus Jul 12, 2006 01:54 AM

I've had BRB's for 18 years but the collection has really taken off the last two. One really cool part of producing a lot of babies is you get to keep the really special ones. Like SA-PO-01, I've only seen one like her in the ads and that was pricey as I remember. Would never have bought the one in the ads but is way cool producing and keeping the one I have.

Also, I've been actively persuing many seperate bloodlines, this way I can try different pairings and when I find one that really works great, just keep pairing those two together again and again.

The normals were all holdbacks from the 136 I produced in 2005 and the hypo's were all new acquisitions this last year.

Dave,
...That group shot is about the prettiest snake PIC I have ever seen. I need some hypos and I cannot wait for my hets to produce them. No monday (or tuesday) PICs from me this week. I have company here visiting.

That means a lot to me coming from you. I know you've been doing BRB's for many more years then I have and I have learned a lot from you.

The hypo's are very cool, I'm just very fortunate to have produced so many BRB's last year, they funded a good portion of my hypo purchases. I started out looking for hets but am not patient enough to wait the 3 years for babies. As you know I have really big plans for the Hypo's. And having hypos to start with will definately speed up the project.

Thanks, I definately did a double take when I first saw her. I usually drop the babies in tubs and randomly assign the number...with her, she got the 01 designation on purpose!

They have been growing like weeds, I feed weekly, typically mice and quite often 2 mice per feeding. The mice are 5 week old not fully grown males. I've had a surplus of males from building up the female breeder mouse reserve in preperation for the arrival of my '06 BRB's

The "late pics" were taken Tuesday morning after Monday night feeding. I base second portions on tummy bulge. If not noticable, seconds it is. For those that show the bulge, no desert!

I also raise my own feeders, fed rodent blocks.

They are all F/K so may be more nutritious than F/T ??
