anti-tadpoles...

thefroglady08 Jul 11, 2006 04:12 PM

i just realized that my 2 fbt are a male and a female. I know this because zorak makes noise, and often ends up on godzuki's back, and godzuki never objects or tries to stop him.

I don't know how old these toads are, but I would love to know how to discourage breeding. It's not that I don't want the tadpoles, but I've got 2 fbt, a spadefoot, and a green frog... I can't feed any more animals.

I would love to let the green toad and the spadefoot go, but I'm afraid they'll die if I let them go. A friend of mine saved both of them from a cat, and gave them to me. I've had the green frog for about two months, and the spadefoot for a month and a half. I don't know what to do.

My FBT's just bred this summer after having them for about 3-4 years. I don't quite know what made them go into breeding mode...the only things that were different this year were (1) I added some java moss to their water section which was about 6 inches deep and (2) I added a small heater for the water.

If you don't provide them with a deep water source I doubt they will breed since they lay their eggs in the water. Perhaps, make their enclosure mostly land with a shallow pool.

That's my best guess. Maybe someone else is more experienced...
