Finally, I get to see a litter born.....

LeeBarrie Jul 11, 2006 05:46 PM

What a cool deal. After all these years & God only know how many litters of boas, I finally was able to catch a female giving birth from start to finish. I knew this Bolivian girl was going to drop today so I decided what the heck, I'll stay at home & check on her religiously every 15 minutes. Finally at 3:35 P.M. I went up to take a peek & what do you know, she was just pushing out the first couple babies. So I went & grabbed the camera. I never got any really killer pics but I'm pretty happy with what I did get. She certainly proved what I knew all along. Good healthy litters don't take much time at all. It was 18 minutes start to finish with a couple slugs & around 30 babies. This girl always has perfect litters & she is the mother of the other 2 girls that produced for me this year. She's 10 years old now & this is her 4th litter. I'm betting she is probably good for 3 or 4 more down the road with next year off.

This one actually came out to see what I was doing.

I'll get some pics up later of the entire litter. Time to clean up the goo now.

Enjoy,

Lee

The babies look great! I love that shot of the one baby on mom's tail. There's nothing like watching a boa give birth *sigh*!

Thanks,

It's that odd one with no side patterning at all. She was bred by the odd paradox male. Kinda looks like slugs but it may just be a small litter (like 6). She's still a month away. Peruvians are due in the next few days though.

A nice pile for sure.

Looks like it turned out to be 27 babies give or take. I thought she was going to have 35 or more. Looks like they're just big hunking babies. Much larger than the others. Here's a pic of the bulk of them. Sorry for the bloody mess, that's just kinda the way it goes.

Thanks again,

Lee
