new to snakes. Need care sheets

captotterboy Jul 11, 2006 07:48 PM

Hey all,
I am a herp owner, but i am new to snakes. Doing a little research, i have found that kingsnakes, cornsnakes, and milksnakes are all considered to be good beginer snakes and have much of the same care requirments. Is this true?

Does anyone have any good care sheets? I have a 20L tank set aside with themometers and hydrometers already set aside and ready to go. other than that i dont know what else i need.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

Thanks for the care sheet

just a couple of questions:

1/ lighting. how much UVB needed for 20L tank? Do i need a heat lamp? Can a heat lamp be a substitute for heat tape or something like that?

2/ IF i get a baby, do i have to limit the room in a 20L tank somehow to make it more confortable for the snake or will it be fine as long as i take extra consideration with food and temperature?

3/ Does the care sheet you sent me work for king and milk snakes also?

Thanks for your help,
Jeff

1) Snakes don't need UVB light or anything other than natural room light.

2) Baby snakes do best when kept in small enclosures, like something the size of a shoe box.

3) Corn snake care is pretty much the same as king and milk snake care.

I've got a corn snake care sheet on my website with some photos.
