Proven true ultra caramel motley male.

blichtenhan Jul 11, 2006 09:48 PM

Pictured is an '04 male ultra caramel motley that was bred to 2 female butter motleys this last spring, and 2 clutches have hatched so far. We were not sure, up to now, if the male was a golddust motley or an ultra caramel motley. And the great news is that all the babies are golddust motleys! 20 babies and not a single butter motley. This means the male is an ultra caramel mot and not a golddust mot. The babies look dark coming out of the eggs, but I have noticed over this last week that they do seem to be lightening up. I will post some more pics after they shed.

I guess I should point out that I think we have all baby golddust. They certainly are dark. I suppose it is possible the male is a amber motley, and all the babies are caramel mots het hypo het albino. I will be anxious to see what they look like after their first shed. And I really posted all this to see what you all think might be the genetic make-up of these babies, thanks,

Any which way seems like a cool project you have there. Can't wait to see more pics. Did you hatch out any more of those perfect Caramel Motleys? Tom Stevens

I won't have any more this year. Some of these new babies are getting ready to shed, and they really have lightened up. I would say I suspect they are, indeed, all golddust mots, thanks Tom, Brad

I know everybody talked about how "yellow" the Goldust were in the beginning, and they are extremely saturated with color, but compared to a Butter Motley they are a darker shade of yellow when they are born. Their name is very fitting. They are a goldedn yellow color rather than a lemon yellow. Butter Motleys can vary a great deal too, from a butterscotch color to a lemon yellow and so do the Goldust, but over all the Goldust are darker than Butter Motleys. The eyes are the key. They will either be yellow or blue, with ruby pupils. This can easily be seen when they are born. If you are not sure they are ruby pupils, then perhaps they are not Goldust, but I have a feeling yours are. I sure hope so, because I have a sibling to your Ultra Caramel Motley!!!

Joe, thanks for checking the pictures out. The babies are looking a lot lighter now. I will post more pictures this weekend after they shed. I am sure, after seeing them lighten up this week, that they are golddust mots, all with nice patterns and one with a full stripe. Incidently, the pueblans I got from you 2 years ago really have kept their color nicely, and have stayed very clean too, thanks, Brad Lichtenhan
