Female ball

stevebp Jul 11, 2006 11:19 PM

My female has gained about 500g in a month and 1 week.Is this normal or is she just a machine. Just writing this to see if anyone else has a female that has gained an unbelievable amount of weight in a short time.
P.S: I'm not complaining, I'm looking to breed her to my pastel this season.

Dude mine gained 700 in 3 months, it's because she was super power-fed, probably like yours

I have had females that I pick up from pet stores that are a few years old go from 1000g to 1800g in 5-6 months but I think yours has alot of food in her still unless she is long and skinny...

What was her size prior to putiing on the 500g? I agree with the other poster, I would expect a 250g crap sometime soon.

She let it all out yesterday and it was huge, also after I cleaned up I took her weight.

Her last weight was recorded on may 25 and she was 1100g.

If she was already 1100g than the 500g in a month and a half doesn't sound too crazy. My best eater went form 900g on 5/1 to 1180 6/1.

In my experience animals retain about 1/3-1/2 of their food as actual weight as long as they are on a routine feeding schedule. If you are feeding the snake big medium rats you could expect the snake to retain about 60-80gms per feeding. If you feed on a 5 day routine that would be 6 feedings and the snake could gain roughly 400-500 gms in a month. snakes put on large amounts of weight when they get switched to bigger rats as there is just more protein per feeding, unless they are eating 6-8 mice per feeding before that.

You say that you want to breed her next/this comming up season, that should not be a problem. Any female that is feeding good right now and over 900g should have no problem putting on 400-500g and make minimal breeding weight which depending on the person you talk to is 1200-1500g and some people won't breed until over 2000g. The one thing you have to realize is if the female is an 05 she still may not be "mature" enough to produce eggs. I myself have several killer feeding 05's that are well over 900g and if they continue to slam rats for the next 5 months will easily be put into my breeding rotation. My breeding criteria is 1500 gram for any female 2.5 yrs or younger and 1200g for any female over 2.5 yrs. The reason for the lower weight of older females is I may not have had them when they were younger and they could have been stunted during their first year or two and they won't have as high of a weight or size when fully grown. Hope this helps.

My 5 females are April 05's and I don't think they would be ready till next year...I guess I don't feed enough...lol...They want to gobble up everything...I just only feed every 10 days...I don't have any weights on them...I will get some ...now I am curious. Andy
