Help with baby cham!!

confusedme Jul 12, 2006 11:04 AM

I just got a baby veiled chameleon on Sunday... impulse buy really.... anyway, I have a heat light for it and UVB light, fake and real plants. I didn't know that the young ones were harder to take care of. I'm feeding him pinhead crickets but he hasn't eaten any and I haven't seen him drink any water!! Please helpppppppppppppppppp.

You do know that chameleons don't drink standing water, don't you?

Chameleons need relatively high humidity, and thus must be misted 2 - 3 x per day...

There are lots of veiled caresheets available online... just google "veiled chameleon care"

Good luck,
J

Often babies don't eat small crix, but prefer fruitflies. If that was what the breeder fed him he may not "recognize" the crix as food. You'll need to mist his plants with hot (it cools really fast to warm) water so he can lick the droplets off the leaves. There are several good articles on baby care on this site:

impulse buys are not a good idea especially a cham. But I will not berate you since you do now have a little one you need to provide for. Do you have any idea how old it is? How big is it? Did you get it at a store or show?

They can overheat very easily so monitor your temps carefully. What sort of cage do you have it in? Go to link below (Cham Resource) for links to lots of cham info. A specific article on babies is here:
