Snakes at fundraising events? Your opinions por favor.

Umtata1 Feb 07, 2003 07:23 PM

I'm currently putting together a benefit in Chicago to raise $$ for the Leukemia and lymphoma society (thru Team in Training- they r a division of the L & L society that trains people to do triathlons in exchange for fundraising). The way I'm going to raise $ is to throw a circus-themed party. I already have fire dancers, house djs, and theater people dressed like lions/tigers, my costume is the 'snake lady'. Since it will probably be held in a private loft space I want people's opinions on my costume as the 'snake lady', borrowing my friend's 6 ft boa as part of my costume. If I stick to a corner, away from the 'crowd' do you think it would be safe enough to have this snake in such an enviroment? I would tell people not to get too close and would put him away if I thought he was uncomfortable.
Do you think the snake would poo on me if he gets nervous (see previous post)?!

Any Chicagoan's interested in attending please e-mail me for info...umtata1@aol.com

Thanks for all your opinions! Muchas gracias for the spanish speakers.

in my experience, the snake is the best indicator of whether or not the event will be a success. if it is telling you to put it away, put it away!

in several years of doing that type of show, i have only seen one animal come out worse for wear, and that was a relatively fragile rat snake...i think that a boa should be fine. once again, let the snake dictate the amount of time it will be social..

good luck!!!
