Sand Boa escaped...help

tsusnakeguy Jul 12, 2006 12:05 PM

My little sand boa escaped and I am wondering if there is any way of trying to trap him or what. He is so small I have almost given up on the idea of being able to find him but I am looking. I would really appreciate some help.
Thank you

I looked everywhere and under everything when mine got out several years ago, I found the larger of the two but the small albino was no where to be seen. I ended up folding up some newspaper (loosely) so it was a good hiding spot and suspended a ceramic heater over it. The thought was, if the snake came across this she would stay to get warm and hide in the paper. I set up three of these in the room I believed the snake to be in the corners. Two weeks went by and the day before I had to travel with work, I found her in one of the folded newspapers.

I should also point out that my wife is terribly afraid of snakes and her one rule for me keeping them was “they are NEVER to get out”. It was very important to find that snake, my wife was going to a hotel while I was gone rather than spend the night in a house with a loose baby sand boa, no bigger than a pencil.

luckily sand boas are slow and dumb, he probly isnt too far away, search under everything you can. do you have heating/ac vents it could have crawled into? then there could be a problem, but if not, im sure it is findable. search under couches, furniture, bookcases, etc. ive heard many stories of paople finding there sand boas over a month later too. so if it doesnt show up right away, chances are you will probly see it again sometime. mines escaped 3 times before i finally found the place she was getting out of. i have one of those plastic containers you find at any pet store, and theres a little hatch on top that could be lifted. so i just taped that hatch down and it hasnt escaped since. and also, ive thought ive lost my sand boa when it was really still in the tank, so make sure its really gone. good luck, keep us posted on the search.
