Separation?

jester3125 Jul 12, 2006 12:19 PM

Hello,
I have a pair of bearded dragons. They are the same age, and as best i can tell one is a female and one is a male. The female is slightly larger, although I would say they are both sub adults.
The male has been bobbing his head more and more lately, and today i saw him bite the female. He bit her right in the back of the head and didnt let go until I pulled him off. Is this normal? Should they be separated?
Thank you for any information!

hey need to be separated ASAP. Dragons should never be housed together, except in the case of breeders who have hatchlings together. Especially male and female, the male will try to breed with the female and most likely stress her out and possibly even kill her. Dragons should never be housed together. Separate them immediately.

that is not always true i know a ton of people who leave their dragons together when breeding and keep them together to constantly breed them. The bobbing of the head and biting her on the neck is a sign that he is interested in her. Thats as long as the are a male and female as you say they are.

I would definitely caution against keeping them together... My male ended up getting a little too fiesty back when I had them housed together and my female lost a leg from him biting too much too far while I was gone one day...
