Funny things happen at work

dawnrenee2000 Jul 12, 2006 12:56 PM

Here is a funny work story for ya.

I had ordered me a graybanded kingsnake and it got shipped to me at work today. So I took the grayband home and got him set up and on my way back to work I get a call from my boss saying he needs my help. His friend found a snake in her basement and is freaked out. She called animal control over there but he told me to meet him there too. So I get there and animal control has caught it with its long snake tongs and says it's in the bucket, but told me to be careful.

I open up the nasty looking bucket and there I see this cute desert phase yearling sized California King snake. I immediately reached in and took him out, which of course freaked everyone out even more..lol I explained that these snakes are one of the most common, docile pet snakes on the market and it was of no harm. And This was clearly someone's pet at one time because they are not found in the wild around here. They countinued to freak out, though..geez. Well, I talked them into letting me take it with me. So, I guess I got two snakes today.

I agree yours very nice to. I dont have CA king but other kings. I am afraid of being bit and read they can be biters might think my hand is a mouse as I read they bite first ask questions later.
But I love the black/white contrast .

Not kingsnake story - but when I lived in Pinole, CA - there was a guy standing across the street from house just standing there. 5 minutes later, he was still just standing there. I decided to ask him what he was doing, because it bothered me.

I went out - and he said "Thank God someone came. Call someone, there's a rattlesnake between my feet"

I looked between his feet - and there was a gorgeous baby striped variation Pacific Gopher snake - the only wild striped variation gopher I had ever seen. It wasn't as completely striped as the captive bred specimens I had seen at East Bay Vivarium - the stripes were broken in many places, but it was still gorgeous.

I told him it was just a gopher snake and picked it up, and asked him if he wanted to touch it - he declined.

I'm glad he didn't try to step on it.

I gave it away. At the time, keeping any reptiles was not possible.
