Arent we just a lucky pair! lol

Maybe if I am luck mine will be a female..I have too many male cal kings already !

FunkyRes Jul 12, 2006 03:29 PM

You and me both.

My big guy is a male.
My two little guys that I thought were a pair before the sex probe are both males.
The big guy I caught this year is a male (so I released him).

My only female (one cal king and a pyro pyro) were purchased.

I'm hoping to get a large female for my large male. I'm guessing he is at least 9 or 10 years old, next season may be the last opportunity to breed him - or it may not be, or he may be too old already. Getting a mate for him will be the only way I can get a clutch next year.

I've seen a couple large females offered in classifieds, I almost bit on one - but If I'm going to buy him a mate, I want it to be a banded albino (w/ pink eyes - is that T pos or T neg ??)

this guy soon to find out what he is, cept i don't have a probe small enough, i'll just have to make one, and find my KY lol. Maybe it's just me but i totally love freaking people out in the store, when i bought that KY i was on my cell telling the person on the other end i needed the KY cause i had alot of probing to do and i used it to find out if they are male or female. people in the store were looking at me in fear i think lol. anyway off to make a probe!

For adult snakes (gophers/kings/garters) I use to just use a bobby pin. But I went ahead and bought a set of proper probes.

I've always just used vaseline.

I'm scared to use even the small one on my Pyro Pyro (just arrived today) as she's so small - she's almost a year old (hatched 7/28/05) but I think I'm just going to trust she's a female for awhile, and if she turns out to be a he - oh well.

I'd like to breed her, that's half the fun of herping - but I don't know if breeding her is going to be a reallity. Mountain king maless (from what I've read, not experienced) need 4 months of ~ 55F. It does get that cool here in the winter so I could use outside air in the herp room, except I also have read that respiration problems can occur if the temp isn't stable, so I'm thinking putting a room AC unit in would be the best way to go to achieve temps that cool for that long. I don't know if I'm going to do that, so the sex of her may not matter, I might just keep pyro's as pets and not attempt to breed them.

His dark bands look black and his light bands look like a light flourescent yellow. Is this his correct coloring or is it just how the camera makes him look?

Oh that's going to be the camera, infact his white bands are pure white, I think i had the setting on the camera which helps to prevent red eye, so that could be where it is coming from. take care!
