Trading question

garweft Jul 12, 2006 04:50 PM

How do you guys handle trades through shipping? I would guess that you would have the customer send first and then you would send. Or would you send them out at the same time?

Of course close trades would be handled in person but what about cross country trades for mid value animals?

Just wondering. Thanks for any input.

ive done both...send first and send at same time. it really depends who youre dealing with. I did a trade with a bigger breeder and i sent fist. I also traded an equal animal and picked a date and shipped. Make sure you trust the person.

I guess I'm a lucky one, I live in sw florida and there are sooooo many ball people here that I may never have to worry about needing to do cross country trading. However to answer your question, what do you consider mid level trading, I'm guessing snakes in the 2-6k range correct? This is what I would do, first I would try to schedule the trade during a time period I don't have school (I'm a 28 yr old full time college student) or when I don't have work. I would try to schedule a flight so that I or the other party could meet so that we could both go over the trade in person that way there would be no problems or questions about each others snakes. If you think about the prices of round trip flights and the price of 2 overnight shippments of snakes through delta the final price of the flight could be about the same or less. If the person isn't willing to meet in person even with me flying cross country then there is something amiss with the deal and I have no desire to do business with people not willing to meet face to face. I am also not willing to do business with someone who isn't willing to inspect my animals with me there or me inspect theirs with them there. It is a trust issue and I don't have much, been burned a couple times and I don't care if you are RDR or NERD, I like to do business in person which is why I love the big expo's like daytona, so much can be done in person there, you can schedule all your trades to happen on that weekend as alot of the dedicated snake people are going to be there. I am already in negotiations for trades on vanilla babies to be next year in daytona. Hope this helps but if you are not willing to do any flying, I'd have the other person ship first with a written contract giving you 24-48 hours to have the animals inspected by a vet before you ship and then that person has the same 24-48 hrs to have yours inspected.
