Manual Pipping, when to do it. Any tips?

rudedogsurfrat Jul 12, 2006 06:55 PM

Well I finally did it. After a long wait I finally got a good clutch of eggs.
My female woma dropped 13 eggs. 3 eggs went bad during the course of incubation (I'm probably to blame), but I am happy to say 6 of the remaining 10 have hatched and look healthy (with the exception of one that has a bad right eye).
Thanks for everyone's help.

Well the estimated hatch date is supposed to be this Friday the 14th. So I was on vacation (again) and I got a frantic call from the neighbor who was watching my tortoises and hedgehog. She called and said "the snakes are hatching".
So here is the timeline:

Monday 7/10: 1 hatched, 2 pipping, 7 good eggs left
Tuesday 7/11: 3 hatched, 1 pipping, 6 good eggs left
Wednesday 7/12: 5 hatched, 1 pipping, 4 good eggs left

So now I've got 4 eggs. They started hatching on Monday but my calculated due date was not until Friday (boy did I screw that one up).

When is it time for a manual pipp?
Has anyone done this and what are the results?
What is the safe range of hatch time in Woma's from first to last egg?

I'd be comfortable in doing this procedure if it is necessary since I do have a medical background.

Thanks for any help.

Well I manually pipped one and there is no movement.
These 4 eggs are starting to stink.
What a bad deal.

Looking good!!! I especially like the bottom one. Looks like it will have a nice light pattern.

Hey thanks.
It was hard work for me.
I do think that snake will have some great colors.
