WD's and Chameleon in same tank??

gazemm Jul 13, 2006 08:41 AM

I have 2 chinese water dragons and one chameleon in the same tank (its 2ft deep, 4ft wide and 4ft tall).

I was told by (who i thought) was a reliable source they could be kept together and i did not find anything on the internet to state otherwise. I now have them all in the same tank n they seem to be getting on fine i.e. feeding normally, geting close to one another and there have been no problems.

I have just been told on another forum board this is a VERY bad idea and to seperate them immediately...is this the case or has anyone ever kept these lizards together with no problems??

Thats definitely a bad idea.
Even though you may not notice it: The chameleon being a solitary animal suffers severe stress from the continuous presence of the big and active WDs, Especially since your tank is very much on the small side. I would not even keep a single WDE in a tank of that size.
Chances are close to 100% that the chameleon will not live long in this setup-independent from the exact species-zthis relates to all chameleons.

Hope that helps

Ingo

P.S.: There is a lot of iinfo available, on the internet, in paapers and books, telling that mixing of chameleons with other lizard species is a bad idea and the risks are even higher than for mixing other species of lizards

thats a big No-No

As said, Chameleons stress very easily, sometimes just being near another chameleon can stress them out to the point of death.

I would seperate the chameleon immediatly
