Update on snake and her eggs

jasonw Jul 13, 2006 09:20 AM

Sorry no pictures yet. I will try to get them done and uploaded thismorning. I wanted to let everyone know that all 16 eggs are doing great. Also finaly in the wee hours of thismornign Snake finaly took her first mouse since 6-6. I gave her one very large fuzzy and one small hopper and that was all she would take. I think we are finaly out of the deep end of the pool. I will get those pictures taken right now

Funny but when I look at the 2 pictures I count 17 eggs not 16. I will have to go recount them now. All the eggs did not fit in one of the containers I set aside so I had to use 2 of them. I half way considered removing all the eggs from eachother and burrying them half way in the perlite but figured this is how they are left in the wild and this is my first ever clutch so I may as well no tempt fait and just leave them alone. So far its been about a week since the laying started and all the eggs look awsome. Sorry for the bad photos but they were taken from my cell phone as my camera took a crap on me last week. Enjoy

Realy? Thats interesting. I just checked on them last night and held one up to the light and it apeared to be good. I held the light up to the container and looked through the other side and all of them looked good. If they are bad how long before they mold? Thanks

Depends on the egg ....I had 1 go bad in a week....some go bad later....They should be white not yellow....My Blizzard laid a second clutch and only 6/20 were good but the 6 don't look like there going to make it....so you never know but always leave them in the incubator till they are bad..

I think this may be more of a camera problem then anything. Plus if you had them starting out in a brown wet substance (like wet coconut husks), they will pick up the brown. If you lit them and see veins they should be good I would think.

They're probably not slugs. In my experience, slugs are slimey and wet from the beginning, and don't stick together like healthy eggs do.

I'd just keep an eye on them for a while, but don't toss them until they mold and collapse.

Good luck!

My slugs haven't had any problems sticking to other slugs or fertile eggs.

I guess it's just been my luck to have not had slugs stuck together as well as healthy eggs are.

Live and learn, Huh?

...If you discount the yellow tint from the camera, there's nothing about the shape or form of the eggs that say 'slug'. In fact, they look more like regular, fertile eggs to me. If you look closely enough, you can see some stars on the eggs themselves. I've never seen that happen on a slug (slugs are usually smaller and smooth), only on a good egg.

Heck, I've taken pics of perfectly good eggs that looked that yellow on my PC. A little bit of contrast and brightness adjustment, and it makes a considerable difference on their color tint.

Yes I can see viens in them when I light them and they do have little star looking things on them. This is my first clutch as well as the females. I will keep my fingers crossed and keep everyone up to date. The camera as I said was on my cell phone so its not the highest of qualities so maybe that is it. They were laid in 100% Perlite so the color could not have come from that. However bad photo or not they are a little yellow but only in places while other places are bright white
