Turtle can't dive down far- Question?

Pokagon Jul 13, 2006 11:47 AM

We have a Blanding's Turtle in our nature center that we have had for many years (with proper permits). We recently improved the aquarium and gave it more diving space. However, it seems that he cannot dive all the way down to reach some fo his food.

Does anyone have ideas as to why this may be? Are we dealing with air in his body that is preventing this?

Thanks

I had the same problem with a juvenile Blanding's turtle. The turtle had overheated, and could not fully submerge from that point on. This can be a very serious condition. I recommend veterinary treatment immediately. Unfortunately, my turtle could not be saved despite extensive veterinary care. I wish you the best of luck!
