How to feed two mice?

Skorcho Jul 13, 2006 04:53 PM

My adult male ball has been feeding on f/t jumbo mice twice or so weekly, I would offer f/t rats but they are not available to me and until my female grows bigger I am not going to order on-line. As they cost would outweight the benefits. SO my question is what is the best way to offer more than one feeder per feeding? Should I let him swallow than offer another one or gently push the second behind the first while feeding?

thaw out 2

open cage

place 2 in

leave

he either eats them or not.......after not eating 2 for a couple times.........you can just feed one...

if he eats none.....and he eats while you wiggle the dead prey

feed one then after he eats it try second...

don't force or trick them to eat

well you can offer two, you can put both in and leave him be, check back and if they are both gone then good.

you can offer one, then when he is done offer the other.

I call what your describing follow feeding or chasing. im sure there are 20 other things you can call it too. I have do this to a female i have who only eats mice and one at a time at that. its really easy. Right when she is about to take that last bif swallow i take the rat and just sorta lay it in her mouth gently and put the rats nose against the mouses butt. whe she swallows the mouse she will then take the rats head into her mouth. i usually hold it until i know she has a good grip and then slowly lower it to the ground. i would do that as a last resort though. if you dont need to then dont bother.

ALright I actually never thought about just putting them in there. Right now I feed by wiggling them on hemostats by the tail. But he would probably take them both ways as he is a very consistent feeder. When my little ball python gets a bit bigger ill switch them over to small rats. Dont think it will be a problem as i've been blessed with great feeding pythons.
Thanks

Do you have a petco or petsmart near by? They usually have small packages of f/t. You might be able to pick up a package fairly reasonable.

When I have to feed two I feed the first one, then wait until its down and feed the next one. But I have had some that draw the line at one item per feeding no matter the size.

Good luck!
